Welcome

This section has successfully served as the starting point for many International hockey players currently these include Crista Cullen, Kerry Williams, Anne Panter to name but a few!  These people are backed up by fine hardworking committees both in their clubs and on behalf of the Women’s Section.  Many officers have reached a point where they are taking a well earned rest after many good years of service.

For season 2009-10, we have approximately:

2 National League teams, Leicester Ladies and Loughborough University,

7 Midland teams across all Divisions and

20 local Leicestershire teams drawn from all over the County

The Section has run its own leagues for many years which, with 20 teams, are split into 2 Divisions - Premier and 1st Division. The leagues have provided teams that have successfully gone on to gain admission to the Midland Leagues for the last few years and provide players to every level of representation of the game, from Internationals to the successful Midland Under 15 squad.

Without doubt the underlying strength of Leicestershire hockey comes from the work done by the Schoolgirls Hockey Association, which last year closed for business after 33 years of sterling work. The group had consistently shown us as arguably be the best such organisation in the country, with 39 affiliated schools.  With this strength there now opens a new era as part of the newly formed LRHA Junior Section, encompassing Schools & Youth.

The Women Section also has a strong commitment to producing umpires and coaches and currently has reps at all levels from National to local.

We hope you will find a team to suit your level of hockey, or which will provide the encouragement and facilities for you to achieve what you desire from the sport.
